Importance and Role of Journalism
Newspaper is most common and popular print media It is a cheaper source of information. It is a Publication containing news information and advertising usually printed on low cost paper called newsprint. It is often published daily or weekly to make people up to date. Some predictions has been made about the future of the news paper that with new media technologies would result in general decline in newspaper profits and news papers role in society will shrink or even disappear although historically new media technologies such as radio and television news supplanted print media. Newspaper also began as journal means record of current events. That is why the profession involved in the making of newspapers began to called journalism. Much emphasis has been placed upon the accuracy and fairness of journalists and journalism.
In the 19th century in the yellow Journalism many newspaper in the united state relied on sensational stories which became the cause of the anger in the public instead of providing information. The more restrained style of reporting that relies on fact checking and accuracy regained popularity around world war II. Criticism of journalism is varied and sometime vehement. Credibility is questioned because of anonymous sources errors in fact spelling and grammar real on perceived bias and scandals involving plagiarism and fabrication.
In the past news papers have often been owned by so called press barons and were used either as a rich man's toy or political  tool more recently in the united state a greater number of news paper and all of the largest ones being run by a large media corporations such as gamett the largest in the united states the meclathchy company Cox land mark Morris corporation the tribune company Hollinger international news corporation etc. Many industry watchers have concerns that the growing need for profit growth natural to corporations will have a negative impact on the overall quality of journalism.
There is no doubt however the newspapers have in the modern world played an important role in the exercise of freedom of expression whistle - blowers and those who leak stories of corruption in political circles of ten choose to inform. Newspapers before the medium of communication relying on the perceived willingness of newspapers editors to expose the secrets and lies of those who would rather cover them however there have been many circumstances of the political autonomy of newspapers being curtailed.
Even though the opinions of the owners are often relegated to the editorial section and the opinion of other writers and readers are in the op-ed opposite the editorial page and letters the editors sections of the page newspaper have been used for political purpose by insinuating some kind of bias out side of the editorial section and into straight news. For examples the news York times is often criticized for a perceived leftist slant to its stories or by others for supporting the American political establishment whereas the opinion pages but not the news pages of the wall street journal generally take right wing positions.
 Some ways newspapers have tried to improve their credibility are appointing embedment developing ethics policies and training using more stringent corrections policies communicating their processes and rationale with readers and asking source to review articles after publication. Many larger newspapers are now using more aggressive random fact checking to further improve the chances that false information will be found before it is printed. Thus in journalism freedom of expression is most important. Freedom of media may play or vital role in the development of healthy society.
