Importance of imagination
Imagination heighten our perception. Before I deal with the subject at hand I would like to dilate upon the term ''imagination'' Mr. Nigel J. T. Thomas writes about imagination, that imagination is what makes our sensory experience meaningful, enabling us to interpret and make sense of it, whether from a conventional perspective or from a fresh, original, individual one. It is what makes perception more than the mere physical stimulation of sense organs. It also produces mental imagery visual and otherwise, which is what makes it possible for us to think outside. The confine of our present perceptual reality, to consider memories of the past and possibilities for the future and to weigh alternatives against one another imagination makes possible all our thinking about what is, what has been and perhaps most important, what might be.
Traditionally speaking, imagination is the mental capacity for experiencing, constructing or manipulating. It is a creative art. Imagination is realism in every work of art. Imagination is entirely a creative power at all. Imagination perhaps creates new shapes and forms of beauty by unifying the different impressions it receives from the other world. A well- know critic Coleridge in his theory of imagination in ''Biographic Liter aria says that.
The imagination than I consider either as primary or secondary. The primary imagination I hold to be the living power and prime agent of all human perception and as a repetition in the finite mind of the internal act of creation in the infinite I am. The secondary I consider as an echo of the former co-existing with the conscious will, yet still as identical with the primary in the kind of its agency and differing only in degree, and in the mode of its operation. It dissolves diffuses dissipates in order to recreate; or where this process is rendered impossible yet still at all events it struggles to idealize and to unify. It is essentially vital even all objects are essentially fixed and dead According to him imagination is a magical and synthetic power.
