My friend's son died today
He was only twenty-two
My friend is in so much pain
If we only knew.

I had no words to comfort him
No way to ease his sorrow
All I could do was be there
If you only knew.

He said he couldn�t carry on
My heart sank to my shoe
All I could do was offer my love
If you only knew.

I told him time will ease his pain
Told him he must go on
But what do I know
If we only knew.
