I was dropped off at school my first day
A little child of five I stood among a throng of about one hundred
I barely felt alive
I was never so afraid as I was that day
My mother left me standing there
Alone on parade.
I thought I would never see her again
Nobody knew my pain
As the day wore on I never heard a thing
My head was filled with many thoughts
And no one said a word.
How relieved I was to see her
And then she walked me home
No child should ever feel that alone.
A little child of five I stood among a throng of about one hundred
I barely felt alive
I was never so afraid as I was that day
My mother left me standing there
Alone on parade.
I thought I would never see her again
Nobody knew my pain
As the day wore on I never heard a thing
My head was filled with many thoughts
And no one said a word.
How relieved I was to see her
And then she walked me home
No child should ever feel that alone.
