Most people don't believe it's possible to go from broke to billionaire. However according to statista, in 2015 over 55 percent of billionaires were self-made.
Individuals including Roman Abramovich, Francois Pinault, Howard Schultz, Oprah Winfrey, Shahid Khan, Do Won Chang, Ralph Lauren, John Paul DeJoria, Larry Ellison and Mohed Altrad were once broke. But they all became billionaires.
The Law of Cause and Effect
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.- AnonymousThe law of cause and effect states that:
Every effect has a specific and predictable cause.
Every cause or action has a specific and predictable effect.
Our thoughts, behaviors, and actions create specific effects that manifest and create our life as we know it. If we are not happy with the effects we have created, then we must change the causes that created them in the first place.( picture of cause and effect)
According to YoProWealth , wealth like everything else starts with the right mindset. The poor, the middle class, millionaires and billionaires all think differently towards wealth.
To the poor
- Wealth is a matter of luck
- Winning a lottery is the way to get rich(they hope to get a lucky break)
- Getting more money is to soliciting more help
- Success means never having to work
The poor take no risk, are disgusted by thoughts of the rich , believe they are unlucky, plan for the now only ; among other things.
To the middle-class
- Wealth is working hard, becoming self-sufficient , bagging credentials and becoming the 'smartest'
- Extra income means expand spending
- Financial security is the !motto
- Getting more money is getting a second job
The middle-class believe they are smart, have a 'do-it-yourself" orientation towards work, are corporate employees, doctors ,realtor etc , plans for next month, among other things.
To millionaires
- Wealth is being self-sufficient having multiple streams of income
- Financial freedom is the motto
- Building systems is the way to get rich
- More money means invest first and spend second.
Millionaires are entrepreneurs , deals in real estate, are investors , believe they are resourceful, have a " have others do it orientation" towards work.Takes calculated risk; plans for 5 years among other things.
The poor share common money habits and mindset. The middle-class have common money habits and beliefs ; millionaires have theirs. Billionaires (too) have their wealth secret.
The Secret of Leverage
Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world. He who understands it, earns it ... he who doesn't ... pays it. - Albert EinsteinBillionaires function with a different set of skills and rules from the poor and middle-class when it comes to wealth.
According to studies billionaires understand the non-linear relationship between time and value creation. The amount of time you spend on something does not have a direct relationship to the amount of value you create. When the middle-class wants to double their income ,the first thing they think of is to double their work.
For instance , someone making $50,000 a year, if they work twice as a hard, might be able to double their income to $100,000 a year. Once you start moving up the ladder, this logic really starts to break down. It wouldn’t be possible for the same person to work 10x as hard to make 10x as much ($500k a year), because that would require working 400 hours per week, and the week only has 168 hours!
According to Wealth-X data from 2013, Warren Buffett made $12.7bn that year which breaks down to $37m per day and $1.54m per hour. Now that’s a serious hourly rate.
Is Warren Buffet working 254,000 times harder than someone making $50k a year?
In fact, Warren Buffett says himself that he spends 80% of his day reading!
So; How is this possible? What’s the missing ingredient?
The missing piece of the puzzle is LEVERAGE.
Being able to achieve more with less and focusing on what’s important.
Billionaires like Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos , Larry Page are all masters of leverage. They are always looking for ways to do more with less.
Ways Billionaires use Leverage
Billionaires build wealth by using:- OPM(Other People's Money): According to the Independent ,Donald Trump's businesses owe $1.8bn to more than 150 different institutions, Billionaires use OPM by borrowing, selling shares etc.OPM lets you buy assets earlier, at a faster rate, and control a larger amount than your personal savings can ever afford. These three characteristics of financial leverage enable you to become wealthier faster.
- OPE,OPW,OPI (Other People's Education, Work,Ideas): Amazon Chief and self-made billionaire is the world's richest man(link) #today thanks to Amazon.
Building earth's largest online store, Alexa ,Blue Origin and a bunch of other projects is not a feat Jeff Bezos could have done "alone" with his B.Sc in electrical engineering and computer science.
Like most self-made billionaires he started a business (Amazon), because it makes it extremely easy to leverage on other people's education , work and ideas.
Billionaires focus on high payoff activities. They let others do what they do best. Bookkeeping, housecleaning, graphic design, website updates, filtering emails and phone calls are all low payoff activities for the average business owner yet you many spend thousands of billable hours a month on these tasks.
Amazon employs as much as 541, 900 employees and several professors and experts to get work done faster and perfectly.
3. Leveraging on Systems( Including Technologies )
Self-made entrepreneurs billionaires don't build all the technology and systems they need . They simply acquire them.
As of December 2016, Google has acquired over 200 companies according to Wikipedia . Why? To leverage on their systems and technology.
Like self-made billionaires, by employing high leverage techniques and focusing on high payoff activities, we also can "sit still" and watch our wealth grow.
