15 Fascinating Facts That will Blow Your Mind Literally

Do you know that men are 6 times  more likely to be strucked by lightning than women? Or that you could feasibly eat 3 thousand year honey because it never spoils?

The world is a fascinating place, and it's full of weird and interesting facts that you might have never realized were true.

Here are 15 that will blow your mind literally.

1. You are born with 300 bones, but by time you are an adult you only have 206.

The skeleton of a newborn baby is made up of more than 300 parts but by adulthood, your skeleton contains just 206 bones.  Source

2.The tongue of a blue whale weighs more than most elephants and it's heart more than most automobiles. Source

4. If you took out all of the space in our atoms, the entire human race (all 7 billion of us) would fit into the volume of a sugar cube. Source

5. One year on Venus is equal to 224 Earth days. And one day on Venus is equal to 243 Earth days. Which makes a day on Venus longer than a year. And to top it off, Venus is the only planet in our solar system that rotates backwards.

Venus is unusual because it spins the opposite direction of Earth and most other planets. And its rotation is very slow. It takes about 243 Earth days to spin around just once. Because it's so close to the sun, a year goes by fast. It takes 225 Earth days for Venus to go all the way around the sun. That means that a day on Venus is a little longer than a year on Venus. Source

8. Observervable matter (like stars and planets) makes up a measly 5% of the universe. The other 95% universe is made up of invisible dark energy (68%) and dark matter (27%). That means there's 95% of the universe that we don't know about yet.

NEW YORK — All the stars, planets and galaxies that can be seen today make up just 4 percent of the universe. The other 96 percent is made of stuff astronomers can't see, detect or even comprehend.

These mysterious substances are called dark energy and dark matter. Astronomers infer their existence based on their gravitational influence on what little bits of the universe can be seen, but dark matter and energy themselves continue to elude all detection. Source
