Steven Allan Spielberg (born December 18, 1946) is an American filmmaker considered one of the founding pioneers of the New Hollywood era and one of the most popular directors and producers in film history.
While a student at Carlifornia State University he was offered a small unpaid intern job at Universal Studios with the editing department. He was later given the opportunity to make a short film for theatrical release, the 26-minute, 35 mm, Amblin', which he wrote and directed.
The executives at Universal were so impressed, they signed Spielberg as a television director. It made him the youngest director ever to be signed for a long-term deal with a major Hollywood studio.
Steven Spielberg dropped out of college and didn't get his degree until 2002, 33 years later.
The unadjusted gross of all Spielberg-directed films exceeds $10 billion worldwide, making him the highest-grossing director in history. His net worth is estimated to be more than $3 billion.
