9 Ways To Deal With Distractions And Focus Better On Your Goals And Dreams

Things unexpected happens sometimes to try to shift our focus from our goals and dreams.

We face obstacles that no amount of planning and forethought could have predicted. Roadblocks that tries to distract us from our goals and dreams.

But remember:

Things happens but how we respond to these events determines our outcome.

Here are 9 tips to help you deal with overwhelming distractions and focus better on your goals and dreams.

1. Identify the distraction

To attain your fullest potential you should be able to detect  distractions.

Specifically pinpoint the distraction.
What really is it?  You need to know what is distracting you from your goals in order to deal with it.

2. Meditate and prioritize

Ask yourself, would this matter a year from now? Would this matter two years from now. Would this matter 5 years from now? Is this situation as important as it seems  to be?

You need to understand what really you should be focusing on. Be honest with yourself, what really is the most important to you?

Try to avoid distractions as much as you can to focus better on your dreams and goals.

Find a quiet place to meditate and think things through.

3. Deal with it

Ask yourself. How best can you handle this distraction? Should you ignore it or physically remove yourself from it.

If you want to focus better on your goals and dreams you've got to be ready to do what it takes.

The distraction screaming for your attention, but is taking you away from your desired direction can and should be ignored. Or removed. Or both.

When was the last time you actually accomplished something you were proud of? How did it make you feel? What was it that you did differently from the other times when things fell through the cracks?

Have you faced something similar to this in the past? How did you handle it?

Find wisdom from your past experiences.

4. Practice persistence, stretch your willpower, be patient.

Patience means to be ready to face adversities and in many cases to undergo enormous suffering in order to achieve a desired aim. Persistence means not to give up, to remain in the ‘battle’ and ‘fight’ till the end for what you long for.

Your willpower works like a muscle and so does your mind.

Improving your willpower can help you learn how to focus better on your goals and dreams because you have more control over your mind— you will soon begin doing anything you should just by telling yourself to do it.

Practice concentration by turning off all distractions and committing your attention to a single goal.

Success requires determined effort.

5. Get inspired by your role-models.

Focus on those who believe In you. Surround yourself with those who believe in you, those who buy into your vision and support you on your journey.

A key ingredient for living an inspired, bold life is to find role models that we can emulate and imitate — people who can help us find ourselves in the process, writes Christopher D. Connors

In life, we determine our course of action by observing and practicing the behavior of those who strike a chord with us; people whose stories and examples ignite the fire inside of our bellies.

We take big steps of growth when we identify role models that do the things that we aspire to do well. The genesis of many of our greatest ideas and plans come from observing our heroes. When we read and hear about people whose stories inspire us, we should listen closely. We should try to pattern our behavior after them by embracing these opportunities with open arms.

6. Keep your goals in sight. Look ahead.

What is it all about anyway? Have you forgotten?

Envision the end result. What legacy do you want to leave behind? What do you want to accomplish in life?

Look ahead knowing that problems and distractions are only temporary.

7. Use Reappraisal

How you react to things is more important than what actually happens.

The best way to reappraise a negative situation is to see yourself as the master of your problems rather than as the victim.

Your problems are at your disposal.

You can think about them, learn from them, and respond to them in any way you choose.

When something bad happens to you, change the way you interpret it.

Instead of complaining or feeling sorry for yourself, focus on the result (not yourself) and find a way to learn from it as quickly as possible. Then…

Find a way to use it to your advantage.

It’s unrealistic for you to think you should never have pain. The key is to turn the pain you experience into growth.

According to Columbian psychologist George Bonanno, “self-deception and emotional avoidance are consistently and robustly linked to a better outcome.” Diverting your focus from your grief can boost your resilience.

8. Use motivating self talks

One way to recognize, promote, and sustain optimism, hope, and joy , all necessary ingredients to keep you focused on your goals and dreams is to intentionally fill your thoughts with positive self-talk.

Positive self talks will can give you that extra boost you need to focus better on your goals and dreams.

9. Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.

Never give up on your dreams.

According to James Clear,  to maintain long term focus, you should focus on processes not events.

For instance:

If you want to be a great writer, then having a best-selling book is wonderful. But the only way to reach that result is to fall in love with the process of writing.

If you want the world to know about your business, then it would be great to be featured in Forbes magazine. But the only way to reach that result is to fall in love with the process of marketing.

If you want to be in the best shape of your life, then losing 20 pounds might be necessary. But the only way to reach that result is to fall in love with the process of eating healthy and exercising consistently.

If you fall in love with the process,  you will become more focused on your long term goals and dreams and make you significantly better at it.

Start all over even after you fail
